Mueller-Thurgau is one of the most widely planted white grape varieties in Germany and has established itself over decades as an uncomplicated everyday wine often bottled in one-litre bottles.
Typical Mueller-Thurgau wines show delicate fruit aromas that never dominate on the palate. This makes them excellent and versatile companions for many different occasions.
The pleasantly mild acidity combined with a subtle residual sweetness makes our Mueller-Thurgau a particularly harmonious, easy-drinking white wine that pairs well both with meals and with relaxed social enjoyment.
Whether at lunch or dinner, during a traditional early or evening drink, or simply enjoyed on its own – Mueller-Thurgau impresses with its balanced and understated style.
Our Mueller-Thurgau vines grow in the Rheinhessen part of the estate at the Dalsheimer Steig on gently south-east facing slopes. Here they benefit from deep, nutrient-rich soils and sufficient warmth for reliable ripening.
The variety was bred in 1882 by Professor Hermann Mueller from the Swiss canton of Thurgau at the Geisenheim Research Institute. More recent genetic studies have shown that Mueller-Thurgau is a crossing of Riesling and Madeleine Royale.
The synonym “Rivaner” originated from the earlier assumption that Mueller-Thurgau resulted from a crossing of Riesling and Silvaner.
Mueller-Thurgau prefers deep, nutrient-rich soils and produces reliably consistent yields under favourable conditions. At the same time, the variety is relatively sensitive to winter frost and therefore requires sufficiently warm vineyard sites.
The large bunches ripen early and carry medium-sized yellow-green berries with a subtle hint of muscat. These characteristics result in fresh, harmonious white wines with mild acidity and restrained aromatics.

Mueller-Thurgau wines usually show a pleasantly mild and balanced acidity. This makes them soft, harmonious and easy to enjoy.
Typical are delicate fruit notes as well as occasional light floral or subtle Muscat nuances. Overall, the wines appear fresh, balanced and rather restrained in character.
Both are classic German white grape varieties but differ in style. Riesling is usually more vibrant, fruit-driven and higher in acidity, while Mueller-Thurgau tends to be milder and softer.
The grape variety can be vinified in different styles — from dry to off-dry or medium-sweet. Mueller-Thurgau from Weingut Fuchs shows a gentle touch of sweetness.
Yes. Rivaner is a synonym for the Mueller-Thurgau grape variety. The name originated from the earlier assumption that the variety was a cross between Riesling and Silvaner.
